Note: Liquid Led seem to fall of the radar since it’s last release in July of ’09 (Another Cup Of Tea) and now 13 months later, poof…. Liquid’s 15th installment into Zeppelin’s dirary of boot haven. From start to finish The Bringer Of War is simply amazing! It seems to have that ’75 board feel. This release has all the standard cuts but what stood out for me was the clarity and sonic definition. Stand-outs are: Black Dog, Dancing Days, Dazed, and Stairway. Wonderful artwork accompanies this release for (IMO) the best package of this show to date. -bb

-MJK

Matrix notes: This is a 50/50 mix of source A and B below. No EQ or compression was used. Source A already sounded nice, so I left it alone. Source B had a few volume jumps, mostly in The Grudge. I did my best to smooth those out, but its still noticeable at times. Both sources are now fully in the mix for Soundscapres, and the crown jewel of the set, Pushit. Its now complete in both sources, and the tabla duel sounds much better without the edits. Track splits are a bit sketchy on the first few tracks. The start of Forty Six & 2 has drops in both sources, so I did my best to patch together a complete intro. I left Tuva and (-) Ions as source A only, as source B only contributed crowd noise (and lots of it) on those tracks.
Whew, I think that’s it…

enjoy!

Matrix notes: This is a 50/50 mix of source A and B below. No EQ or compression was used. Source A and B both are excellent captures. I left Tuva, as source A only, no source B available for Tuva…. :( Track splits mostly followed source A, but I combined Parabol and Parabola. I filled the small gaps throughout source A with source B.
The only gap that’s still noticeable is in Reflection. First few seconds of Disposition were missing from source A, its now filled w/source B.

enjoy!

Fripp appeared with Tool on the 2 Berkeley shows, these 2 LA shows and the San Diego show.

A thrill and the reason I travelled all over the West Coast taping these shows!

Excellent Audience Recording
224 kbps

Taping Gear: Sony ECM-99A > Sony TC-152SD

One of the best sounding audience recordings of a show from Linda Ronstadt as she was rising to the top. It has now been improved by JEMS with a fresh 2013 digital transfer.

“Taper Steve Hopkins transferred and torrented this wonderful set several years ago, but that lineage went from cassette to DAT to CD-R then ripped back into FLAC. It has also fallen off the tracker. This is the first time Steve’s master tapes have been digitized directly.

“In the mastering process, it also became clear that Steve’s mic position changed for a stretch of side two of the master tape, causing a significant decrease in high end. We’ve adjusted for that to try to unify the sound of the entire recording into one pleasing whole. Most of the recording though is positively cracking all by itself, with Hopkins recording on his home field, the Boston Music Hall, site of some of his finest recordings of the era including four legendary Springsteen nights that would come three months later.

“Thanks yet again to Steve Hopkins for allowing JEMS to present his outstanding audience recordings in a fresh light.” - BK for JEMS (And thanks to Butterking for sharing the tracks at Dime.)

Linda Ronstadt had a great ear for melody. She spotted talented, up and coming songwriters and made hits of their tunes. By 1976, Ronstadt or her management had her singing songs that were from established songwriters. Thankfully, she decided to take a different path. From covering torch songs to world music, Ronstadt did them all with class and grace. She remains a woman with a big voice and a bigger heart.

DIGITAL SOUNDBOARD

I know this is up here already as a matrix, but you’ll have to excuse me for not trusting too much in others work. No, I haven’t heard it, it might be fabulous, but I can’t give it good odds. There are two people in the scene who have remastered material that I can happliy listen to, but I’ve yet to hear a source blend that I thought was worth the time and effort of those who did them.

Also, U2 is not the type of band to benefit all that much from a blend anyways, as their live shows over the past 15 years have been heavily choreographed and automated, with the board getting all of what will hit the stacks. Drum machines, samples, loops and all FX will go through the board, and it’s fully pre-determined and controlled, there will be no surprises.

Now the source. It’s exactly what DSBD’s sound like; clear, clean and razor thin. Actually, it’s so clean that I hear a slight sizzle in some of the passages, nearly on the verge of breaking up, but never does. And there was no beef to speak of, none at all.

So it got hammered, 13 style. Compression, Q’ing, width, depth, maximization.
(Blip at 1:11 in Track 12 was fixed.)
