Note:
The two concerts in Vancouver are almost cancelled, due to a strike by radio station CKLG-FM.

3-18-75: “CUPE local 1004 (Canadian Union of Public Employees) at the PNE and two other unions involved would have boycotted the concert if CUPE local 686, representing the CKLG strikers, had so wished. But CUPE spokesman Ole Johnson said the concert is “definitely on.”

“We felt it was in the best public interest to allow the concert to be held,” he said, “We aren’t intertested in hurting the over 20,000 people who have already bought tickets.”

Francis Anthony Salvatore - bass

* w/ Amy Helm (vocals)
^ w/ Paul Barerre (slide guitar)
(I didn’t hear Fred Tackett)

A solid SBD recording. Thanks to Tom Reizes for the DAT.

Opened for Little Feat. Billed as Levon Helm and the Classics, but Chris O’Leary introduces the band as the Barn Burners.

The Albany Times Union reviewed the concert HERE

The paper said:

“The Band’s Levon Helm has played with a number of different bands in recent years, and there was some confusion as to just who was onstage Tuesday opening the show. The advertising proclaimed his band to be the Classics, but in fact, they have been dubbed the Barn Burners. Whatever you want to call them, they sounded simply great.

Helm’s voice has been silenced by illness in recent years, but he was still a knockout behind his drum kit. And his band — led by vocalist, harmonicat and Schenectady native Chris O’Leary — mined the rich vein of blues nuggets from masters like Muddy Waters, Big Joe Turner and James Cotton.

Barrere and Tackett slipped onstage to join in the festivities, but this band didn’t need any special guests. They lived up to their name, no matter which one it was.”

COMPLETE SHOW – SOUNDBOARD

At the first Tibetan Freedom Festival in San Fransico, there were over 100,000 people there. Now that’s a big show. This is a recording of the Beastie Boys from that very show. I believe it comes from a pre-FM source and is a soundboard show. Although it is a soundvboard show, the sound is not wonderful. The mixer, I am thinking, was most likely high. This should please all Beastie fans as much as it does me… enjoy!

Other bands at this festival included:

The Smashing Pumpkins, Chaksam-pa, A Tribe Called Quest, Pavement, Cibo Matto, Biz Markie, Richie Havens, John Lee Hooker, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Rage Against the Machine, Sonic Youth, Beck, Foo Fighters, Björk, De La Soul, Fugees, Buddy Guy, The Skatalites and Yoko Ono/Ima

Excellent SBD recording (Wild Wolf Label)

2-CD Band bootleg issued in 2000 (Wild Wolf Label), with tracks from 1971 live recordings and rehearsal tapes. All previously unreleased/ uncirculated.

Incredible 33-track, superb quality from master reel sources. A fab Wild Wolf set with 25 previously unreleased/uncirculating performances from the NY City, Academy of Music, December 28-31, 1971/72 gigs that spawned “Rock of Ages” - but with no overlap from that official release.

Plus a terrific 8-song rehearsal from UltraSonic Studios, Long Island, in Dec 1971, also uncirculating & in primo sound. An absolute knockout 155+ minutes and an instant Hall-of-Famer.
